Month 17 in Review

Morgan made it through her first month in the Toddler room. And it is absolutely AMAZING the transformation. This month she has really grown up right in front of our eyes. Even our neighbor Mr. W, commented on the fact that she is just different, older, in mannerisms and thought. The best way to describe this is probably with a short video showing some of her typical Toddler behavior...amazing how you can sum up a personality in a 20 sec clip.

Some examples: she will put her jacket away upon arriving at school, will wash her hands before breakfast, throws her plate away after she's done, and scoops out her own goldfish snack…All on her own! See pictures below of first attempts using a spork at dinner (ok, so it's a gradual process). Morgan even has a new boyfriend already…watch out Jack! His name is Alex and he is totally in love w/ her and walks around saying, "I love Morgan. I want to kiss her," and then plants a couple on her cheek with a great big hug. She's even had to adjust to a 3 hr nap/quiet time in the afternoon. Which being a 1 -1.5 hr napper, has been a bit of a challenge…but by the end of the month she was doing it! We even had one 3.5 hour nap (although it might have helped that Alex was kneeling next to her patting her back and giving her kisses on the cheek). And if not sleeping the entire time, she will lay there quietly until the last hour when she can get a book to read. Now if we can only figure this out at home.

Of course she is learning all this from the "big" kids. Being the newbie, she is definitely the youngest one with many of the others being around 3 and getting ready to move to preschool at the end of the summer. The teachers took a picture of Morgan during her art project, and it was too funny to see the boy next to her…he looked like a giant! Now maybe it was the perspective of the shot, but the picture cut off at his shoulders and Morgan only came up to his elbows!

Mommy stayed for breakfast one day at the beginning of the month, and the kids were having full conversation about their previous night at the table. Morgan definitely has her part in our conversations (at the dinner table, in the car, while on walks)….the babbling just doesn't stop…but it is totally a different when those conversations are filled w/ real words and questions, and meaningful answers. Miss Leeza assured Mommy, as she stared in amazement, as the kid next to Morgan poured his own glass of milk from the pitcher sitting on the table, "Morgan will get there; don't worry." We are sure she will…and probably way too fast. By the end of the month she is already drinking from a regular cup all on her own. Although, sometimes she loves cleaning more than drinking so there have been a number of spills in the process…many we know are completely intentional.
