Our Christmas Trek

On Thursday we started our long trip to Chicago to spend Christmas with the Reinekes and to see some friends and family along the way. Driving time to arrive would be over 16 hours (final mileage update: we traveled a total of 2,015 miles). Thank goodness gas prices plummeted shortly before we left…several months ago gas prices reached as high as ~$4.20 and it was interesting to track the various prices as we crossed the country; the cheapest we saw was $1.43 and the average was $1.60.

Our first night would land us in Carlisle, PA to drop off Alia and spend some time with Grandma and Grandpa Brown and Aunt Stephanie and Uncle Matt before officially starting our journey. We then would stay in Columbus, head to Cincinnati to visit the Klopfenstein's, see Great Grandma Donna in Indianapolis and finally arrive in LaGrange, IL to stay at the McDonald's Lodge and see Mommy's side of the family. Throughout the trip we would experience every type of winter weather there was. Starting with rain so hard you couldn't see the front of your car, temperatures so cold the wind chill registered -50°F, heavy snow on Christmas, black ice covering the roads the day after and then storms again that would melt the snow, threatening flash floods and potential tornadoes.

It was a great trip and Morgan was such a trooper both in the car and on all the adventures that we took. A bunch of pictures and stories will be posted soon...stay tuned.
